iPhone 11 With Dual Rear Cameras, Apple A13 Bionic SoC, Liquid Retina Display Launched: Price, Specifications

Apple on Tuesday unveiled the new iPhone 11 smartphone, as a successor to the company's iPhone XR. According to the Cupertino, California-based company, iPhone XR ₹ 58,490 was its biggest selling smartphone in the 2018 iPhone lineup and with iPhone 11, the company is making things even better on its cheapest new iPhone. In addition to the iPhone 11, the company also showcased the new iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max phones that will sit at the top-end of the company's smartphone portfolio. Notably, Apple will retain the iPhone XR in its lineup.

Apple iPhone 11 price will start at Rs. 64,900 in India and at $699 (roughly Rs. 50,000) in the US for the base 64GB variant. The phone will also be offered in 128GB and 256GB variants that will retail at Rs. 69,900 and $749 (roughly Rs. 53,600), and Rs. 79,900 and $849 (roughly Rs. 60,800), respectively in India and the US. The iPhone 11 will come in six colours – Purple, White, Green, Yellow, Black, and Red - and its pre-orders will open September 13 in US and over 30 countries around the world. The sales will begin September 20 in the first batch for countries and September 27 in India.

Apple says iPhone 11 is jam-packed with great new abilities and features, including the brand-new dual rear camera setup, Spatial Audio, Dolby Atmos support, and improved battery life. As we mentioned, Apple will retain the iPhone XR in its lineup despite unveiling its successor, and it will be priced at $599 (roughly Rs. 43,100).

iPhone 11 specifications

iPhone 11 features a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina display and is powered by Apple's new A13 Bionic chip. Apple claims that the A13 Bionic SoC brings the “the fastest CPU” and “the fastest GPU” present in any smartphone to the iPhone 11. iPhone 11 runs on iOS 13 that brings features like dark mode, Sign in with Apple, and expanded Haptic Touch support.

Among the biggest improvements in the iPhone 11 over the iPhone XR are the camera capabilities. The iPhone houses a dual camera setup on the back that packs a 12-megapixel wide-angle main shooter with f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilisation and a 12-megapixel secondary ultra-wide-angle shooter with f/2.4 aperture and 120-degree field of view. New camera software features include next-generation Smart HDR, improved Night Mode, and enhanced Portrait Mode. Additionally, the dual rear cameras support 4K video recording at 60fps and are paired by 36 percent brighter flash than the one in iPhone XR.

The front shooter on the iPhone 11 is also a step up over the iPhone XR. Apple has included a 12-megapixel front shooter that is capable of shooting video in 4K as well as slo-mo videos. It offers a wider output if you switch to the landscape mode.

In terms of the battery life, Apple claims the iPhone 11 will offer “one hour more than iPhone XR” on a single charge. To give you a reference point, in our review, iPhone XR easily lasted a full day and the phone went on for over 13 hours in our HD video loop test.

IOS 10.2 Is Out With An India Specific SOS Panic Button

Apple released iOS 10.2 update on 13th December with many bug fixes and performance improvements. The update for the first time brings India only SOS button to iPhones and iPads, which was made mandatory for all the phones being sold in India from January 1st, 2017.

The update also brings numerous other features like 100 new emoji, new TV app and improvements to the Photos, Music, Mail, News and Messages apps.

The SOS button was something that has been expected to be rolled out by all the phone manufacturers in India, as Mobile manufacturers have been asked by the Department of Telecommunications to install a software in all existing phones to provide for a panic button like feature at the press of one single number to help users in case of emergency.

Back in May, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said by January 2017, all mobile phones will have a 'panic button' so that if a woman is under some kind of threat, she can use the button and alert the police.

The new SOS button functions via the power button, and the user can change how to activate the SOS call in the settings. By default, the SOS call will go straight to the number 112, which will become the new emergency number from January 1, 2017.
The user can tweak how the SOS key works under Settings > General > Emergency SOS on iPhones 5 and above running iOS 10.2. You can choose whether to activate SOS by pressing the power button three times or five times.

iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus Pre-Orders Open on Amazon, Flipkart

Apple's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have gone up for pre-orders via Amazon India and Flipkar. The latest iPhone models come in 5 colours including Jet Black and Black, with Apple having revealed the India prices for the entire iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus lineup earlier, alongside the shipping date of October 7. Both Amazon and Flipkart have dedicated pages for pre-orders.

The iPhone 7 will start at Rs. 60,000 for the 32GB variant. The iPhone 7 Plus will start at Rs. 72,000 for the same storage capacity. The 128GB and 256GB variants of the iPhone 7 will be priced at Rs. 70,000 and Rs. 80,000 respectively, while the iPhone 7 Plus will priced at Rs. 82,000 and Rs. 92,000 for the corresponding storage capacities.

Both Amazon India and Flipkart have unveiled pre-order offers for the smartphones. On Amazon, the company has detailed exchange offers along with a full list of eligible phones. Those who use the exchange offer will get additional cashback worth Rs. 4,000 in the form of an Amazon Gift Card. The company has also unveiled a 'no cost EMI' option, and those that opt for this will get cashback up to Rs. 8,000 as an Amazon Gift Card.

Customers who pre-order the smartphones on Amazon and sign-up for a 1-year Amazon Prime membership get a Rs. 500 Amazon Gift Card. Another offer (which lasts till October 14) for iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus buyers who download and sign into the Kindle app will get 80 percent off on Kindle eBooks (up to a maximum of Rs. 1,000 Kindle store credit).  The same offer extends from October 15 to October 30, but the maximum store credit will be reduced to Rs. 300. The company has also detailed that the recently unveiled 1+9GB Vodafone offer for new 4G handsets is applicable as well.

As for Flipkart, the company is detailing an exchange offer that can give a discount of up to Rs. 24,500 on the price of the smartphones. Those who use Citibank credit cards will get cashback up to Rs. 10,000.

The new iPhone 7 series sports a refreshed design and the rear antenna bands have been redesigned to make them less prominent than before. Both the phones feature a brand new home button that uses Taptic vibrations to simulate a physical tap. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus also come with IP67 water and dust resistance.

3G smartphone demand declining, handset makers like Samsung, Micromax and others to launch only 4G phones

Third-generation (3G) smartphones are headed for a quick exit in India, with prices of the more advanced 4G devices plunging and plans by large manufacturers to completely withdraw from the segment in six months.

Samsung Electronics, Oppo, VivoBSE 0.00 %, Lenovo-Motorola, HTC, Micromax Informatics and Panasonic have decided that they will now launch only 4G smartphones and some of them are clearing out their 3G smartphone stocks, four senior industry executives said.

Retailers said demand for 3G smartphones has been declining over the past two or three months, in the run-up to the launch of services by Reliance Jio Infocomm.

Jio, which started commercial operations earlier this month, is offering 4G data and voice services free with almost all major smartphone brands until the end of the year. It has also cut the price of its entry-level 4G Lyf smartphones to Rs 2,999 from Rs 3,999.

Other smartphone makers may follow suit, bridging the gap with entry-level 3G smartphones that are priced upwards of Rs 2,500.

"We are not placing any new orders for 3G smartphones. Manufacturers are not importing any new 3G phones," said Subhash Chandra, managing director of south-based retailer Sangeetha Mobiles.

Samsung, the country's largest cellphone maker, has only three 3G smartphones in its portfolio and the remaining 22 models are all 4G. While the company did not confirm when it will exit 3G handsets, it said 4G phones are becoming the mainstream.

Sales of 4G devices are picking up because there is already a large base of smartphone users using 3G/2G smartphones, said Manu Sharma, vice president (mobiles business) at Samsung India Electronics.

"Hence, they would want to take advantage of the 4G offering with higher speeds and reduced data tariff plans. The ecosystem of content, services and applications has evolved significantly, which is fuelling adoption," said Sharma.

Chinese rival Oppo India will transit to a completely 4G portfolio from 2017 by discontinuing its sole 3G model, company president Sky Li said. HTC president (South Asia and India) Faisal Siddiqui said with 4G smartphone prices plunging in India, it will exit 3G smartphones by March.

Handsets that support 4G accounted for 65 per cent of smartphone shipments in India in the quarter ended June and are projected to reach 90 per cent of the market by the same period next year, according to Hong Kong-based tracker Counterpoint Technology Market Research.

Counterpoint's senior analyst Tarun Pathak said a maturing component ecosystem will lower the pricing of entry-level 4G handsets to about $40 (about Rs 2,600) by the end of 2016.

The Pre-orders of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will open on Friday. The phones will be available in more than 25 countries beginning September 16 and will also be available to customers in India beginning October 7.

Technology giant had launched the highly-anticipated smartphones beginning at USD 649 with advanced technologies like immersive stereo speakers and air pods and the new phones will be available to customers in India beginning October.

Apple CEO Tim Cook took the stage in San Francisco to introduce the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, calling it the "best, most advanced iPhone ever, packed with unique innovations that improve all the ways iPhone is used every day."

The new iPhone features new advanced camera systems, come with more power and performance, more battery life, immersive stereo speakers and is the first water and dust resistant iPhone.

iphone SE stands for Special Edition of a Same Engine on a Small Exterior

What SE really stands for:-

The $400 for this Smartphone Extraordinaire is a Smart Expenditure. On one hand, it still has the Sharp Edges of the iPhone 5s, and its addition to the lineup will remind critics of Samsung’s Excess.

On the other hand, its 1.5-day battery life means that it only Sips Energy. This is a piece of very Solid Equipment, even if it is a Special Edition for people with Small Extremities.

What does SE stand for? Apple says Special Edition, but you could also sum it up this way: Same Engine, Smaller Exterior. Because Apple has crammed the chips, guts, and camera of the iPhone 6s into the crisp-cornered body of the tiny iPhone 5s.

On one hand, Apple now seems to be following the Samsung model of spewing out phones and tablets in every conceivable size, rather than innovating in more substantial ways.

On the other hand, Apple is correct that a certain chunk of the population doesn’t like the jumbo-ification of smartphones, such as the big iPhone 6s and even bigger 6s Plus.

Some people, small of hands, still cling to the three-year-old iPhone 5s (with its 4-inch screen) despite the gigantic improvements in speed, camera power, and wireless abilities in the newer phones.

Three things about the SE are newsworthy: First, the battery life is about 30 percent better than the iPhone 6s’s - a side effect of having a screen the same size as the 5s.

Second, at $400 without a contract (for the 16GB model), the iPhone SE is the least expensive iPhone that Apple has ever offered. Finally, with its 4-inch screen, the SE is now the smallest brand-name smartphone sold in America.

The SE is loaded with features (Apple Pay, Live Photos, fingerprint unlocking, 4K video recording, hands-free voice commands, and more), but not a single one of them is new in the SE.

It actually lacks one modern feature of the iPhone 6s: It doesn’t have 3D Touch, which makes shortcut menus pop up when you apply additional pressure to the iPhone 6s’s screen. (Compared with the 6s, the SE screen isn’t quite as colorful, the front camera not quite as good, and the fingerprint reader isn’t quite as fast, either.)

In other words, a review of the iPhone SE would, for all intents and purposes, be a re-review of the iPhone 6s.

Therefore, to save us both time and effort, here’s what I said about the 6s, in lightly updated form. After all: If Apple can recycle its finest ideas?

The SE looks exactly like the iPhone 5s. The back is smooth and satisfying, as though the phone just shaved. It weighs just four ounces but feels fairly durable, due in part to its hard edges and the fact that it’s just slightly thicker than the newer iPhone 6s.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is planning to offer its own way for shoppers to pay with their smartphones in its stores, setting itself up as a competitor to Apple Inc. and other companies that already have rolled out mobile-payment technologies.

The retail behemoth is adding a feature to its existing mobile app so consumers can pay at the register with any payment information stored in their Walmart.com account, including gift cards, debit cards or credit cards. The retailer plans to release the payment capability to its 4,600 U.S. stores in the first half of next year, company executives said on Wednesday.

By getting into mobile-payment technology, Wal-Mart will go up against Internet and technology giants like Apple, Samsung Electronics Co. and Alphabet Inc.’s Google which have rolled out their own products to facilitate a shift away from cash and credit cards. It isn’t the first retailer to try its hand in this area. Starbucks Corp. created a payment app build around its loyalty program that allows coffee buyers to pay with their phones in stores while earning points toward free coffee.

But like many large retailers, Wal-Mart has been slow to adopt technology that allows shoppers to pay with phones in stores, in part because not many consumers are rushing to move away from credit and debit cards. Wal-Mart never enabled the register NFC technology needed to use Apple Pay and similar systems for payment.

Daniel Eckert, Wal-Mart’s head of services for the U.S., said the retailer decided to build its own payment system because the other options either only work on particular smartphones or only allow users to pay with a select group of credit or debit cards.

Wal-Mart wanted to create something “that allows customers to use any credit, debit, prepaid card, just as they would normally do if it were plastic,” said Mr. Eckert. About 75% of Wal-Mart shoppers own a smartphone, he said.

With the new system called Walmart Pay, shoppers use Wal-Mart’s app and camera feature to scan a QR code at the register which then connects to the payment cards on file in their Walmart.com accounts. App users also can pay for part of their purchase with cash when using the mobile system.

Wal-Mart’s offering marks a definitive move away from the Merchant Customer Exchange, or MCX, a band of retailers and restaurants that joined together in 2012 to build a mobile payment technology called CurrentC that would help them sidestep the billions of dollars spent on credit-card payments each year. MCX started testing CurrentC in some Columbus, Ohio, retail locations including Target Corp. earlier this year.

Mr. Eckert said the retailer remains committed to MCX and the CurrentC app, and said in the future, Wal-Mart’s app could integrate other mobile payment systems like CurrentC and Apple Pay as a form of payment as it does now with credit cards.

Other retailers have made moves to accept pre-existing mobile-payment options. In August, Rite Aid Corp. started accepting Apple Pay and Google’s Android Pay. Earlier this year Best Buy Co. also started accepting Apple Pay in stores. Target continues “to explore additional mobile wallet solutions,” in addition to its CurrentC test, a spokesman for Target said.
