The Redmi Note 7 Pro priced at Rs 13,999 is the phone to beat in the mid-range category this year.
At the start of 2019, some reports emerged online stated that Xiaomi will be more aggressive with its pricing strategy this year to tackle the competition better. Xiaomi always used to price their devices aggressively, but in 2018, there were some devices like the Redmi Y2 and Redmi 6 Pro which disappointed consumers in terms of pricing.

Just when everyone thought that Xiaomi would not get any more aggressive in the Indian market, out came the Poco F1 which is still the best smartphone under Rs 20,000. But Poco is Xiaomi’ newly established sub-brand and everyone expected the price of Poco F1 would be aggressive. On February 28, Xiaomi launched two Redmi Note phones in India and the Chinese company blew everyone with the pricing of both the phones. The phones in question are Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro. Right after the Note 7 series announcement, Asus reduced the price of its three-month-old Zenfone Max Pro M2 by a massive margin.

The Redmi Note series from Xiaomi always offered incredible performance at a pocket-friendly price. Since the first Redmi Note 4G launch in India, Xiaomi kept the pricing of the base model at Rs 9,999, and it continues this year as well. The standard Redmi Note 7 starts at Rs 9,999, and for the users who’re looking for an even more powerful smartphone, we have the Redmi Note 7 Pro that ticks almost every box on paper.

The Redmi Note 7 Pro is a major upgrade over the Redmi Note 6 Pro that was launched in November 2018 in India. It sports a different design compared to what we’ve seen with Xiaomi devices in the past, offers the powerful Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform, up to 128GB of internal storage, 48MP rear camera and a 4000mAh battery. The price of the Redmi Note 7 Pro’s base variant is set as Rs 13,999 which is incredible for a phone with such specifications. Read on to find more about the Redmi Note 7 Pro in detail.

Xiaomi is never known for launching smartphones with a flashy design like those of Honor and Huawei phones. However, that’s changing with the Redmi Note 7 Pro; The phone sports a glass back with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The leading smartphone brand in India has used a polycarbonate frame which runs around the edges of the phone. The Note 7 Pro comes in three colour variants- Nebula Red, Neptune Blue and Space Black; Besides the Space Black variant, the other two colour options has a gradient back, meaning colours on the rear panel vary with angles. If you’ve seen the Honor phones which launched recently, then the design of the Note 7 Pro will seem familiar to you.
Thanks to the glass back, the Note 7 Pro feels a bit heavy when taken into hands, but again, Xiaomi has distributed the weight evenly and the curved edges make up for an excellent in-hand feel. Lastly, we have the button placements which haven’t seen any change compared to the predecessors; To the right, we have the power button and volume rockers, at the top we have the IR Blaster and 3.5mm headphone jack, and on the left, Xiaomi has added the SIM card tray which accepts dual nano-SIM cards or a nano-SIM card and a microSD card.

For the first time on a Redmi Note device, Xiaomi has used a USB Type-C port. Yes, the Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro comes with USB Type-C port located on the bottom flanked on either side by speaker grilles.

Moving onto the display, the Note 7 Pro rocks a 6.3-inch Full HD+ LTPS In-Cell display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a resolution of 1080×2340 pixels. There’s a Dot Notch on top of the display- again a first on a Redmi Note smartphone and a noticeable chin is also present. Initial impressions are the display on the Note 7 Pro seems way better than what we’ve seen on the Redmi Note 6 Pro and Note 5 Pro smartphones that were released last year.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro First Impressions: Hardware and Software

Last year with the Redmi Note 5 Pro, Xiaomi debuted the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, and this year, it’s bringing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 SoC to under Rs 15,000 price point with the Note 7 Pro. We’ve seen the Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform earlier on the Vivo V15 Pro and it performs slightly better than the Snapdragon 710 SoC which the Nokia 8.1 uses. Paired with the chipset is 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage. There’s a hybrid microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 256GB. The phone runs MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie out of the box.

The Note 7 Pro performed extremely well during our three-day usage and what surprised me is memory management. Xiaomi’s MIUI is known for aggressive memory management in favour of battery life, but that seems to be not the case with the Note 7 Pro as the phone had more than eight apps in memory. Do make a note that I have the 4GB+64GB variant of Note 7 Pro. Like the older Redmi Note phones, the Note 7 Pro also rocks a 4000mAh battery and it has support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology. Inside the retail box, Xiaomi is bundling a 10W charger which is also a welcome change.

The fingerprint scanner on the Note 7 Pro is present on the rear side and it gets the job done. MIUI 10 also offers a software-based Face Unlock and it has seen a minor speed improvement too.

As for the connectivity options, the Note 7 Pro has support for Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and USB Type-C port. It also offers Dual 4G functionality to use two 4G SIM cards simultaneously. There’s a lot of confusion regarding the Carrier Aggregation support on the Note 7 Pro; Yes, the phone supports CA and I have noticed the same on Airtel 4G (4G+) network in Hyderabad, but the actual configuration is not known at the moment.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro First Impressions: Cameras

Now, let’s address the elephant of the room and what Xiaomi is teasing a lot about the Note 7 Pro. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro packs a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor on the rear side. Do make a note that it’s a true 48MP sensor from Sony and not the one which is present on the Redmi Note 7 Chinese variant. To recall, the Note 7 in China uses the Samsung GM1 sensor which is also present on the Vivo V15 Pro which effectively is a 12MP sensor.

With the Sony IMX586 48MP sensor in place, the Redmi Note 7 Pro captures detailed shots which is something Xiaomi is again betting on. The primary sensor works in tandem with a 5MP depth sensor that collects bokeh information for portrait shots. By default, the Note 7 Pro captures images in 12MP mode, but you can easily switch to the 48MP mode inside the camera app.

The camera app also comes loaded with a lot of features including a Night mode that seems to work really well. The Note 7 Pro has support for 4K video recording at 30fps unlike the Note 6 Pro and Note 5 Pro smartphones. And to remove the hassle of shaky videos, Xiaomi has added Electronic Image Stabilisation support as well. On the front side, the Note 7 Pro has a 13MP shooter for selfies and video calls which is sort of a downgrade from the 20MP unit we saw on its predecessor. The front-facing camera also has a portrait mode and it works on AI.

With the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro, the Chinese company is taking the Redmi Note legacy to a new level. All these years, the Redmi Note series stood as the best sub Rs 15,000 smartphone and there’s no doubt the same will continue this year as well. At the same time, the Note 7 Pro bridges the gap between a flagship phone and a mid-range smartphone. For the unaware, the Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform delivers the performance which is on par with the Snapdragon 835 chipset.

The Redmi Note 7 Pro price in India is Rs 13,999 for the 4GB+64GB variant and Rs 16,999 for the 6GB+128GB storage mode. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with Snapdragon 625 expected to be launched in mid-January as per rumours

 xioami is planning to Launch its Redmi Note 4 to India as per online rumors. A company is launching the new version of the Note 4 in mid of January 2017. Redmi Note 4 is the successor to popular mid range smartphone Redmi Note 3, which was one of the bestselling devices for the company in India. Xiaomi itself has not confirmed any launch event for January.
For the Chinese technology company, the Redmi series has done well in India in 2016. The company claims to have sold over 2.3 million units of just the Redmi Note 3 smartphone. According to numbers from IDC, Redmi Note 3 was the most successful smartphone in India’s online channels.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is quite similar to Redmi Note 3 in terms of design and specifications, but has a Type-C USB port.

The Redmi Note 4 comes in two storage options – 2GB RAM+16GB ROM and 3GB RAM+64GB ROM. The price starts at 899 yuan (Rs 9,000 approx) for the 2GB RAM variant and 1199 yuan (Rs 12,081 approx) for the 3GB RAM version.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the Redmi Note 4 a 5.5-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display with 2.5D curved glass. The Redmi Note 4 is powered by a MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core SoC, but the company is likely to launch a Qualcomm variant, considering the ongoing legal tussle with Ericsson that bars the company from launching MediaTek phones in India. According to maktech blog, Xiaomi will launch the Snapdragon 625 SoC version in India. The smartphone is expected to be available in 2GB, 3GB, 4GB RAM options.

On the camera front, the smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, f/2.0 aperture and PDAF support. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and 85-degree wide-angle lens. While the Redmi Note 3 has a 16-megapixel primary camera, some of the camera samples shared by Xiaomi hint at a better picture quality than the Redmi Note 3. The smartphone is armed with a 4,100mAh battery that Xiaomi says is good enough to last for the day on a single charge. Connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots (hybrid setup), 4G with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. On the software front, the Redmi Note 4 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow wrapped under MIUI 8.

To put the specification into perspective, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 was launched in two variants earlier this year — 16GB variant with 2GB RAM for Rs 9,999 and a 32GB variant with 3GB RAM for Rs 11,999. The phablet features a 5.5-inch full HD display, 1.8GHz Snapdragon 650 hexa-core processor, 16-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF and dual-LED flash, and a 5-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 .

Lenovo Phab 2 Plus and Xiaomi Mi Max

Big screen phones with display size of 5.5-inches or 5.7-inches have become mainstream but phone makers believe there is an audience that is open to the idea of using phones with screen size above 6-inches. Lenovo’s Phab Plus (6.8-inch display), Oppo R7 Plus (6-inch display), Xiaomi Mi Max and Mi Max Prime (6.4-inch display) and now Lenovo Phab 2 Plus (6.4-inch) are some of the phones that offers a truly big screen experience. The Phab 2 Plus is likely to be pitted against the Xiaomi Mi Max as it belongs to the same price segment and screen size.

It tips the scales at 218g and measures 9.6mm sideways. It also comes with a finger-print sensor that is placed on the back panel. The Xiaomi Mi Max is another metal clad smartphone with a unibody design. However, it looks a lot thinner and is lighter to hold too. It is just 7.5mm thick and weighs 203g. Its finger print sensor is placed on the back too. The Phab 2 plus is available in gold and a gunmetal grey variant will be available soon. The Mi Max, comes in dark grey, silver and gold.

Both Phab 2 Plus and the Mi Max have a 6.4-inch IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 1,920x1,080p. Both phones allow users to tinker with the display, adjust colour temperature for their convenience, but Xiaomi offers a few extra features such as Sunlight display and Reading mode. The Sunlit display automatically adjusts contrast levels in each pixel without causing any drastic changes in brightness levels when you move from a low lit environment to a bright environment. The Reading mode changes the display colour to orange to minimise the effect of Bluelight on eyes. The other area where the Mi Max looks better is the layer of Gorilla Glass it uses. It uses the more rugged Gorilla Glass 4 while the Phab 2 Plus uses Gorilla Glass 3.

The Phab 2 Plus is driven by MediaTek’s 8783 octa-core processor with 3GB RAM. This is a new processor and hasn’t been used in many phones. It supports 4G networks and VoLTE calling. The processor used in Mi Max belongs to Qualcomm’s new series of high-performance hexa-core processor known as Snapdragon 650 and has paired it with 3GB RAM. This processor has been used in Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 too and in real life scenario it can handle mist heavy tasks such as multi- tasking with consummate ease. The Mi Max supports 4G networks and VoLTE calling. Any comment on the performance of Phab 2 Plus can be made after it has been used for a few days.

Battery is another area where Lenovo has made the most of the phone’s big chassis. Phab 2 Plus comes with a 4,050mAh non removable Li-ion battery. The Mi Max has an upper hand over it as far as battery capacity is concerned. Its 4,850 mAh non removable battery is technically bigger but that doesn’t necessarily mean its battery backup is going to be better too, especially if we factor in the fact that its resource intensive MIUI I’d competing with plain Android of Phab 2 Plus.

Both Phab 2 Plus and the Mi Max run (6.0) Marshmallow version of Android with a a different user interface on top.Lenovo has gone with plain Android interface with no option for a secondary custom UI, as it has been doing in some of the Vibe series phones since last few months. This is likely to put less stress on the phone’s hardware. On the other hand the Mi Max runs its proprietary custom UI. It looks funky and offers plenty of cool themes but can be bit overwhelming to use for first time users.

Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime

As the name suggests, it’s the prime or exclusive version of the Redmi 4 with some of the best features in this category.

The Redmi 4 Prime have a 5″ IPS screen but of the higher 1080p resolution. The upgrades continue with the chipset, which is Snapdragon 625 with an octa-core 2.0GHz Cortex-A53 processor and Adreno 506 GPU.

Also it comes in 32 GB variant with 3 GB of RAM. Further, it has better connectivity options as it is equipped with Full Netcom 3.0.

Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime is already available on-preorder in China for CNY 899 or $133 and will go on sale on Monday.

Xiaomi Redmi 4A

Xiaomi Redmi 4A is the cheapest device with lowest lot of features as compared to other two. This metal clad device packs a 5″ IPS screen of 720p resolution and runs on the Snapdragon 425 chipset with a quad-core 1.4GHz Cortex-A53 processor, Adreno 308, and 2GB of RAM.

There’s 13MP shooter on the back with a 5 MP front side sensor. It is backed by 3,120 mAh battery and a 16 GB on board memory. Also there’s a dual SIM hybrid slot in which you can insert a microsd card with single SIM or you can adjust dual SIM cards. There’s no Fingerprint sensor on this variant of the device.

The phone will cost CNY 499 or $74 in China and will go on sale on November 11. It is available in two color options, Gold and Rose Gold.

According to the release, Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is the most popular smartphone globally, while Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 ruled the popularity index in India and China.

the surprise element was Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3, was the most popular device in India, China, Hong Kong, Russia, Vietnam and Russia.

Antutu uses its benchmark data to rate the devices. The popularity rating is for the first half of 2016. Antutu is currently the most popular benchmarking tool used by both enthusiasts as well as average user.

According to Antutu, India seems to be in awe of Chinese smartphones. While Xiaomi topped the popularity list with 12.45 per cent, OnePlus 2 was the second most popular with 7.7 percent.

Chinese internet ecosystem company, LeEco (formerly known as Letv) which entered India last year with Le 1s and Le Max smartphones seems to have gained good following among Indian smartphone users. The company’s budget smartphone, Le 1s was the third most popular smartphone.

Micromax and Intex which hold the largest share among smartphone users in India could not make it to the list. However, Antutu notes that Micromax’s Yu brand is well received in India.

Xiaomi Redmi 3 Note has been launched in India in two versions: One with 2GB RAM and 16GB space, another with 3GB RAM and 32GB space. The smartphones are priced at Rs 9,999 and Rs 11,999 respectively.
Redmi Note 3 is finally here in India. After the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 4i last year, this is technically the first new smartphone that the Chinese start-up has brought in as Redmi Note Prime, Redmi 2 Prime, were upgrades to older devices. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 goes on sale on March 9, initially sale is on Mi.com and Amazon.com. The smartphone will later be available on all other platforms as well, Snapdeal, Flipkart, etc and will be available offline as well.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Review

Xiaomi has announced that its Redmi Note 3 smartphone will be launched in India next week - March 3 to be specific.

The model is powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 and sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display. It comes in 2GB/16GB and 3GB/32GB memory options, and packs in a 4,050mAh battery.
In terms of camera, the model features a 16MP rear unit and a 5MP front shooter. Measuring 150 x 76 x 8.7mm and weighing in at 164g, the handset runs Android 5.0.2 (Lollipop). There's currently no information on exactly how much the device will cost in India - the Chinese price tag for the 16GB variant is RMB 999 (around $155).

Xiaomi is developing own mobile Chipsets

The report says that the chipsets are aimed at the Chinese company's mid- to low-priced handsets adding that the first of these devices will be launched in the second half of this year. A team of 200-300 people is currently working on the project.

Xiaomi currently relies on Qualcomm and Mediatek for mobile chipsets. The report says the move will hit Mediatek hard as it supplies most of the company's mid- to low-priced smartphone chips - the number was around 20 million last year.

If the report turns out to be true, Xiaomi will become the fourth smartphone vendor after Apple, Samsung, and Huawei to enter the mobile chipset market.
